Our efforts

August 13, 2009

Our hearts go out to each of you who have helped us give a voice to the victim. It appears, however, that our efforts have come up short and the defendant will be tried as a juvenile. His next hearing is not until August and until then, DeAngelis will likely remain under house arrest. Since he won’t be tried as an adult, at least he should be put in a place where he can’t hurt himself or anyone else. DeAngelis has already tried to commit suicide. If he is willing to pay the ultimate price; he is as dangerous as it gets. This is not over and our voices still need to be heard. Please continue to visit and share your comments.

  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Joe and Grace DeIuliis last year after the horrific attack to their daughter. This is a beautiful Christian family who only wants justice to be served. There has to come a time when the law will actually work for the victim and not the perpetrator. That time is now. Please Mr. District Attorney – do your job and bring adult charges against the man who assaulted Sarah. It’s time to make him pay.

  2. Robertino Deangelis needs confinement in a secured facility for his criminal conduct.

As a mother of a teenage daughter myself I can’t help but think of the rage and despair that I would feel if this boy had violated my child like this and interrupted my family’s life. I hope the court sentences this violent juvenile offender to confinement in a secured facility for the full three years where he can learn the lessons of crime and punishment and feel the despair that has tormented Sarah and her family over the past two years. He needs to recognize the harm she experienced and I hope the court reforms him in a secured detention center so they can stop his criminal activity before he harms someone else.

Sarah’s testimony on Monday August 24, 2009 alone which was uncontradicted should assure Robertino Deangleis confinement in a secured facility for the remaining years of his youth.

According to the testimony of Sarah that was supported by the testimony of the off duty detective and the state’s medical expert there is substantial evidence to find that Robertino Deangelis had possessed the weapon to further and assist his criminal conduct. He carried the weapon in a bag while walking with Sarah along a secluded path and he knew that Sarah thought the bag contained her personal belongings. He also knew that she thought they were only meeting to exchange belongings. Upon learning as they walked on a path that Sarah had no interest in continuing their relationship, he dropped out of her sight moved behind her removing the weapon from the bag and hit her in the back of the head and about the face with the hammer and his fists repeatedly intentionally inflicting significant permanent physical and emotional injuries on the victim. He was a troubled young man who thought he could act out violently towards a young girl who had it all but who rejected him and he wasn’t going to let Sarah easily remove him from her life with just a text message. He is very dangerous and the nature of this offense is of such cruelty that it should shock the conscience of the juvenile court. This factor alone should assure that this boy is secured in a facility for the remaining years of his youth.

After two long years this ordeal will finally be over for the Deiuliis Family tomorrow, who have endured this injustice with patience. Regardless of the result tomorrow, they should be commended for all their efforts over the past two years in trying to ensure that their daughter has recourse against her violent attacker and for this excellent blog.
